Myriadam Valentino Medrano

My name is Myriadam Valentino Medrano, and I was born on February 11, 1989 in Houston, Texas.  I lived there with my family for four years, and then we moved to El Paso, Texas.  While in Houston, I went to preschool and learned how to read.  From 1993 to 2007, I lived in El Paso, attending El Paso Country Day School, Cielo Vista Elementary School, Dr. Green Elementary School, St. Clement’s middle school, and Coronado High School.  In 1997 I began to take piano lessons, and I still enjoy playing the piano.  When I was at St. Clement’s, I was published twice in a Texas youth poetry anthology.  The second time, in my eighth grade year, my poem was listed as a Top Poem for the state.  In May 2007, I graduated from Coronado in the top two percent of my class.  In August 2007, I moved from El Paso to Ithaca, New York and began attending Cornell University.  I stayed at Cornell until November 2010, when I transferred to The University of Texas at El Paso.  In May 2013, I graduated from UTEP with a Bachelor of Multidisciplinary Studies degree.  I moved to Houston in December 2013.  Later that month I released Vlora, my first book, with Amethyst Sky Publishing.  My poem “Pocket Watch” was published in Calliope in July 2015.  I currently keep myself occupied journaling various experiences as well as writing creative nonfiction, poetry, and fiction.
